Restoring your bladder's natural protection

ABOUT IALURIL®

What is ialuril®?

ialuril® is a treatment designed to help restore the bladder’s natural protective layer, known as the glycosaminoglycan or (GAG) layer.

In a healthy bladder, this layer acts as a shield, protecting the bladder lining from bacteria and irritants present in urine.

When the GAG layer becomes damaged or thinner, the bladder loses part of its defence. This can leave it more vulnerable to irritation, infection, and exposure to urinary toxins. Over time, this may lead to inflammation and irritative reactions, and the development of symptoms associated with cystitis.

Common symptoms may include:

STRONG, PERSISTENT URGE TO URINATE

Pain/burning feeling when urinating

Frequent small amounts of urine

Blood in urine

Cloudy/strong smelling urine

Pelvic discomfort

A feeling of pressure below abdomen

Common cystitis symptoms may include:

STRONG, PERSISTENT URGE TO URINATE

Pain/burning feeling when urinating

Frequent small amounts of urine

Blood in urine

Cloudy/strong smelling urine

Pelvic discomfort

A feeling of pressure below abdomen

ialuril® can be used in the treatment of:

Interstitial cystitis; Bladder pain syndrome

Recurrent urinary
tract infections

Radiation cystitis; Damage from pelvic radiotherapy

Chemical cystitis; Damage from chemotherapy

Long term
inflammation

HOW IALURIL® WORKS

How does ialuril® work?

ialuril® is a bladder instillation treatment designed to support and repair the bladder’s natural protective barrier, known as the glycosaminoglycan or GAG layer. This layer plays a critical role in maintaining bladder health and comfort.

When the GAG layer is damaged or weakened, it can no longer effectively protect the bladder from bacteria and waste products in urine. This can allow bacteria to attach more easily, increasing the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs), while irritants in urine may trigger symptoms such as:

Strong, persistent
urge to urinate

Pain/burning feeling when urinating

Frequent small amounts of urine

Blood in urine

Cloudy/strong
smelling urine

Pelvic discomfort

A feeling of pressure below abdomen

By helping to restore the GAG layer, ialuril® supports the bladder’s natural defence system–addressing the underlying cause of irritation, not just the symptoms.

Key components in ialuril®

The GAG layer is naturally made up of several important substances. ialuril® contains two of the most essential:

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA): Helps retain moisture and supports tissue repair.

  • Chondroitin sulphate (CS): Helps strengthen and rebuild the bladder’s protective lining.

Together, these ingredients help to replenish and rebuild the GAG layer, improving the bladder’s ability to defend itself against irritation and harmful bacteria.

As the protective barrier is restored, bladder symptoms may begin to improve.

What results can I expect?

By restoring the GAG layer, ialuril® may help:

  • Reduce irritation cased by urine contact with the bladder wall.

  • Improve bladder comfort over time.

  • Decrease urgency and frequency.

  • Lower the likelihood of recurrent infections.

How effective is ialuril®?

Some patients experience relief early in their treatment, while for others it may take several weeks to see the full benefit. Clinical studies and patient experience show that regular use of ialuril® as prescribed can make a meaningful difference to quality of life.

Your doctor will review your progress during treatment and adjust your plan if needed to achieve the best results for you.

ialuril® has a long history of use in Europe, with its efficacy demonstrated in more than 30 clinical studies.

TREATMENT

How is ialuril® administered?

ialuril® is delivered directly into the bladder by a healthcare professional using a thin, flexible catheter. This is a quick and routine procedure that is commonly performed in a clinic setting.

Before treatment, your bladder will need to be emptied; either by urinating or, in some cases, via the catheter. Occasionally, an ultrasound may be used to confirm that the bladder is fully empty.

Once ialuril® has been instilled, you will be asked to hold the solution in your bladder for at least 30 minutes, or longer if comfortable. This allows the treatment to coat and support the bladder lining. After this time, you can empty your bladder as normal.

How long is the treatment period?

ialuril® is usually given as a course of treatments, called instillations, over a period of 2 to 6 months, depending upon your individual condition and response. During this time, your doctor will regularly review your progress and adjust your treatment plan if needed. Some patients may require periodic maintenance treatments.

While undergoing treatment, it is a good idea to keep a treatment diary. It can help you to:

  • Track your instillation schedule and stay on course with your treatment.

  • Support more meaningful conversations with your doctor during follow-up visits.

  • Monitor your symptoms, progress, and overall experience after each treatment.

A treatment diary is a valuable tool for both you and your healthcare professional. It will help track your progress and ensure you achieve the best possible result.

What should I expect during treatment?

Your healthcare provider will guide you through what is involved to ensure you feel comfortable and informed.

  • The procedure is generally well tolerated.

  • Most appointments are quick and straightforward.

  • You can usually resume normal daily activities shortly after treatment.

Will I get any side effects?

ialuril® contains natural substances that are naturally found in the body, so side effects are uncommon.
Occasionally, the administration process may cause minor irritation.
If you experience any unexpected symptoms or have concerns, it is important to speak with your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.
